It has been awhile since we have been on a family vacation. With Dennis’s deployment, sports and moving, big vacations are almost impossible. This year, Dennis is home and we needed to go to MD to get our house ready between renters so we (I) decided that we would make it a family vacation! On the way to MD we went through Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia, stopping at The Lost Sea (a cave with an underground lake) and driving through part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. On the way back, we went over the Bay Bridge to Eastern MD and then over the 17 mile Chesapeake Bay Tunnel bridge connecting VA to VA. We went over to Chincoteague and Assateague Islands and then stopped in the Outer Banks in NC and visited Kitty Hawk. Then we went on to Charleston SC and headed home through GA again but on a different route. All in all we went over 2300 miles and went through 7 states!
First Stop: well actually our planned 1st stop was no longer there (old website and I did not think to call and check :() so this was technically our 2nd stop…The Lost Sea.
Walking down into the cave
Inside the cave
on the glass bottom boat looking at cave formations and rainbow trout
Since our 1st stop to a gem and gold mine was a bust, we “mined” for gems here
Not REAL mining but the kids enjoyed it and we have “gems” as souvenirs!
We stopped at a Bass Pro Shop (Dennis is on a quest to see them all) and then found a hotel for the night in..
