Happy Birthday Grant!

12 years ago, we welcomed Grant into our lives. Preston loved him instantly and called him "baby". Grant lit up when Preston entered his view or he heard his voice. He immediately added more of everything to our lives. Preston was only 17 mos old so we had 2 in diapers and 2 car seats. Boosters and high chairs, swings, bouncy chairs etc littered our house. Grant's many moods then and now are sometimes a challenge and many times much fun. He can cuddle or be silly. Be tight-lipped or ask many questions. Be quiet and shy or funny and outgoing. He loves board games and the outdoors. Now he is a Pre-Teen! Where did the time go? Maybe we will survive the next twelve years. Happy Birthday my middle son. We would not be a complete family without you and it would definitely be less fun!

On his real birthday there was no school so he got his choice for
breakfast, lunch and we all went out to dinner that night also.

Homecoming

Homecoming in a small town is huge. There was a small pep rally right under the only red light in the middle of town Thursday night. Friday morning there was the big pep rally where they crown the homecoming queen, the little cheerleaders danced, the band played, the football players talked and the classes grades 7-12 did skits. Preston's class did a skit based off the movie The 3 Amigos and they won 1st place! His homeroom also won for the 8th grade in the banner contest. The pep rally is over 2 hours long but fun to watch. Later that afternoon is the parade. They bus the elementary school kids that are not IN the parade the few blocks to main street. The jr high and HS kids not in the parade just walk to main street and then back to school when it is over....(never see that happen in a big town!) Dennis pulled Grant's football team and Ryan rode with the SGA officers and class representatives. They had a great time. Preston watched w/ me, my parents, friends and sister-in law (and niece) for a bit and wandered with his friends. That night was the game. We won and I saw a few friends I had not seen in awhile. Saturday, I helped with the school-wide reunion which was nice. Later that night a few friends came over to gossip over wine! We had a nice time!

Basketball...ALREADY???

Preston tried out for the Jr High basketball team yesterday and made it! Practices start TODAY and the first game is the 19th! WOW! We are still in Pee Wee football until Nov 7th. I know Grant will want to play basketball as well so I have to sign him up this week for either Upward or the Enterprise Rec center. Life NEVER slows down!

What a week!

Last week we had something to to every night! Mostly football games and practices but we did go see the Army Soldier Show @ Ft Rucker and it was excellent. ALL of our football teams lost BIG time even the varsity. During the pee wee games, I took a slight tumble down the steps of the concrete bleachers and scraped one arm, one leg and have a HUGE black and red bruise on the side of my bootie/thigh. I tried to maintain a bit of dignity. Luckily most of my family and all the kids were elsewhere and did not see me fall. I was going to talk to some ladies so I just stayed there until I regained my composure and felt the stares move back to the football field!
Preston played his last football game last night- thank goodness. What a mess that whole program is. He enjoyed being part of the "school" team and had fun so that is all that counts. He is trying out for Basketball today. It is also Homecoming week at school as well as end of quarter testing. Poor Preston has to take at least 2 tests a day as well as do homecoming activities and practice for the pep rally.
This weekend will be packed as well. Friday morning is the huge pep rally. There will be a parade that afternoon. Ryan will ride with the SGA from the Elementary school and Grant will ride with the Pee Wee football teams (Dennis is pulling that float) Not sure what Preston will do. I may just check him out and he can watch w/ me...or ride with Dennis. That night is the football game. Saturday is a school-wide reunion at the HS and I am helping with the memorial table. I have to get that stuff ready today and tomorrow! Saturday evening I am trying to get people together for drinks and appetizers at our house. Sunday will be church sandwiched around Grant's birthday party (survivor-themed). My only saving grace (maybe) is that the next week is Fall Break! My plan is to take all the kids to dr and dentist appts so they don't miss school.... but I have not made them yet :( After Fall Break things should calm down. But I think that is what I always say!
I miss being so close to shopping. I have to drive 45 minutes today to get stuff I need for homecoming and Grant's birthday. That is the closest Target, Michael's and party store :(
With all our activities, I will have many pictures to post when I get the time. Check back in next week.
